Korakia Pensione, in Palm Springs. Originally named Dar Marroc it had been build in1924 by Gordon Coutts, a Scottish landscape artist. A passionate traveler, who had lived in Tangier and Casablanca, he was inspired to create a Moroccan Villa in Palm Springs. The San Jacinto mountain range and the desert reminded him of North Africa. Architect Douglas Smith bought the property in 1990 and restored it to his former glory after years of neglect. He turned it into a small hotel and named it Korakia, the Greek name for crows.
